3 Ways to Boost Podcast SEO
One of the best ways to get your podcast in front of your target audience is through SEO. SEO helps increase your podcast’s visibility and makes it easy for your target audience to find your show. There are certain strategies you can use to help increase podcast SEO. Keep reading to learn the three strategies.
1. Use Keywords Everywhere…Literally, Everywhere
The first thing you want to do to increase your podcast SEO is to use keywords. Before creating a title for any podcast episode, you will want to research keywords you can incorporate. There are many keyword search tools out there. My favorite is Keywords Everywhere. Keywords Everywhere is a Chrome extension you can add; however, you do have to purchase credits to use it. The pricing is inexpensive; you can get 100,000 credits for $10. Sadly, the credits expire after a year, so make sure you use them.
Once you have your keywords, you want to incorporate them EVERYWHERE. You will want to add keywords to boost podcast SEO in the following ways:
- Episode Title
- Episode Description
- Your actual podcast episode – Google now indexes audio content. This means that podcast episodes will show up in Google searches.
- Show notes and blogs
- Alt text for images – If you add images to your show notes or blog posts (which you should), you want to make sure to add the keywords to the alt text of the images
2. Post Show Notes on Your Website
Your podcast should take up real estate on your website. In fact, it should have an entire page dedicated to it. By adding show notes and the media player embed of each podcast episode, you can increase SEO. Also, putting your show notes on your website drives traffic to your website, which is exactly what you want since your podcast is at the top of your sales funnel for your business. The keywords for each podcast episode should be sprinkled throughout the show notes including in the heading and the URL for the show notes.
3. Repurpose Podcast Episodes into Blog Posts
Turning your podcast episodes into blog posts creates another opportunity for you to sprinkle the keywords throughout and boost your podcast SEO. Since your blog posts live on your website, this also increases your website’s overall SEO and drives more traffic to your site. One tip I have about repurposing podcast episodes into blog posts is not to take the transcript of your podcast and slap it on your website as a “blog.” Instead, take the main points from the episode and expand upon them in your blog post. I also recommend linking your podcast in the related blog post. You can embed the media player or add a link to the episode.
Bonus: Repurpose Podcast Episodes into Social Media Posts
Social media posts show up in Google results, so repurposing content from your podcast episode into Reels and other social media content is a great way to boost your podcast SEO. But, again, the main thing is to add in those keywords throughout the captions.
Making your podcast SEO friendly is crucial because it ensures that your target audience can easily find your content, which is necessary to grow your audience and establish yourself as an expert in your niche. Focusing on your podcast SEO is also important because it will help drive traffic to your website, getting more people in front of your products and/or services. When planning your podcast episodes, take some time to research keywords that your ideal client or target audience is searching on Google.
