The 3 Changes that Helped Me Grow My Online Business as a Stay at Home Mom

Growing an online business as a stay at home mom can feel overwhelming. Having your kids home with you while trying to get work done can have you pulled in so many directions. The reality is that being a stay at home mom who is also running a business doesn’t have to be stressful. Continue reading to learn the three changes I made to help me grow my business as a stay at home mom.

Stopped Holding Myself to Unrealistic Standards

One mistake I made early on as a stay at home mom running a business was holding myself to unrealistic standards in how I served my clients. This is something that happens with many of my Life in Seasons 1:1 Coaching clients. Holding ourselves to unrealistic standards looks like:

  • Committing to a less than 24-hour or same day turnaround for client deliverables
  • Believing we have to respond to client messages and emails as soon as they come through

When we hold ourselves to these unrealistic standards, we put unnecessary pressure on ourselves. The reality is that when you have kids at home with you, your days can be unpredictable. Even with creating a schedule and daily routine, you can’t control when your kids get sick, when the babysitter cancels, or when life happens in general. Take the pressure and stress off yourself by setting realistic turnaround times. Let your clients know what your standard turnaround and response time is so they know what to expect.

Simplified My Offers

When I first started my online business as a stay at home mom, I complicated my offers. I included a bunch of deliverables and Zoom calls that stressed me out. They were things that my clients didn’t truly need to achieve the results and transformation they were looking for. Being on Zoom calls 24/7 was not realistic for me as a mama of two little ones. Instead of offering weekly Zoom calls, I decided to limit the Zoom calls to one per month and, for the remainder of the month, support my clients via Voxer. Making that change gave me back so much more of my time, but it also allowed me to support my clients even better because they had more access to me. They are now able to get their questions asked quicker via Voxer instead of waiting until our next Zoom call.

Set Boundaries with My Calendar

When I first started my online business, I had no boundaries with my calendar. My calendar was wide open Monday-Friday, almost 8 hours a day for discovery calls, coffee chats, and client calls. It was bad. Because I was on so many calls practically every day, I didn’t have time to do anything else. I had less time to dedicate to client work and working in my business. When I finally started blocking off days when no one could schedule a call with me, I saw a major shift in my business. I also started setting time blocks specifically for calls and limiting the length of calls. As a stay at home mom, most likely, you do not have the time or capacity to be on calls all day. Take back control of your calendar and set it up in a way that fits your current season of life.

In Life in Seasons 1:1 Coaching, I support my clients with simplifying their offers, increasing their productivity (even with their babies at home), and setting their business up in a way that fits their current season of life. Click the button below to apply now!
