Why Selling Without Connecting Leads to Losing Sales
If you’ve been in the online space for any amount of time, you’ve most likely been told the importance of building connections with your audience. The reality is that people buy from people, so when we fail to connect on a human level, we end up losing sales. Continue reading to learn what selling “strategies” can lead to losing sales.
Are You Selling from a Place of Desperation?
Selling from a place of desperation is the quickest way to turn someone in your audience ice cold. Your community can feel when you are desperate for sales. This desperation shows up in how you sell your offers and interact with your community. Selling from place of desperation can look like:
- Being pushy or trying to pressure potential clients into a sale
- When met with an objection from a potential client, making it a them problem and guilting them into it.
- Telling people they are the perfect fit for your offer, but you haven’t taken the time to get to know the person or connect with them.
- When engaging with someone’s content, you make it about you instead of creating a genuine interaction.
- Immediately jumping to the sale without actually nurturing them.
This approach to selling will turn your community cold and cause them to stop trusting you. It’s a turn off, and they won’t trust you enough to move forward with working with you. This is why in Life in Seasons 1:1 Coaching, one of the core pillars is building deeper connections with your community.
Always Sell from a Place of Service
When you sell from a place of service, it shows your community that you aren’t just in it for the money but that you genuinely care. When you sell from a place of service:
- You see selling as an invitation to work with you, NOT that you have to make the sale.
- You don’t feel the pressure to try to “handle” people’s objections. You address them, but you don’t guilt or shame them into working with you.
- You admit when someone is not a good fit for your program or offer.
Selling from a place of service helps you earn your community’s trust. When you have their trust, you don’t have to worry about losing sales. So, check your desperate energy at the door. If you’re feeling the pressure to make a sale, don’t sell. Instead, provide value to your community and engage to build relationships. Selling from a place of desperation is going to do more damage than good.
If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed with how to actually build connections with your community, I would love to support you in Life in Seasons 1:1 Coaching. When we work together, I will help you develop a plan to confidently connect with and nurture your community, so you can be seen as their go-to person for your niche.
