Are You Setting Realistic Business Expectations?

If you are an entrepreneur, that means that most likely you are ambitious and driven. When you are a high-achieving business owner, you can easily fall into the trap of setting unrealistic business expectations. Throw in the added layer of being a mom running a business and you have a recipe for burnout and frustration. Setting unrealistic business expectations can hold you back in your business and lead to mindset drama. So, what does it look like to set unrealistic business expectations as a mompreneur?

What it Looks Like to Set Unrealistic Business Expectations

Setting unrealistic business expectations as a mama running a business looks like setting business goals that don’t make sense based on your current capacity and time available. It also looks like hopping on the latest marketing trend because some guru without kids said it’s what you need to do in order to hit your income goals. Anything that you do in your business that is not in alignment with your current season of life is holding you to unrealistic business expectations.

3 Shifts You Can Make Today to Stop Holding Yourself to Unrealistic Business Expectations

Stop Trying to Live Up to Other Business Owners’ Expectations

Just because your favorite coach says you should be making money every day doesn’t mean that has to be your definition of a successful business. You get to set your business expectations and define what success looks like for you. Your definition of success should align with your values.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others Who Are Further Ahead Than You

Comparing yourself to business owners who have been at it longer than you is going to stress you out. They should be ahead of you because they have been in the game longer. You also can’t compare yourself to those who started their businesses either before they had kids. At the end of the day, you are in your own lane, and you need to focus on your business journey. Comparison is the thief of joy and will keep you in a cycle of feeling like you aren’t doing enough. Don’t look at what someone else is doing. Keep your eyes on your own business and move at the pace that is right for you.

Stop Consuming Content that Makes You Feel Bad

Any content that makes you question your worth, has you wondering if you are doing enough, or steals your peace of mind is not content you should be taking in. There is so much power in muting or unfollowing people who make you feel bad. Content like that will keep you from achieving your goals. You will constantly be in your head wondering if you are doing things right or making a mistake, which will keep you from taking action. Hit that mute button, mama, and protect your peace.

Mama, regardless of what stage of business you are in, you are doing enough. You are doing amazing. Remember, you have built this business from nothing, which is a huge accomplishment. There is no prize for running yourself into the ground trying to keep up with the expectations of others. Build your business in a way that fits your current season of life.
