FAQs About Starting a Podcast for Your Business
Why Start a Podcast for Your Business?
There are many benefits to starting a podcast for your business. It allows you to reach more of your ideal clients, especially those who aren’t as active on social media. It also strengthens your authority and messaging by allowing you to go deeper into specific topics within your expertise. Podcasts are evergreen content, meaning they have a longer shelf life. When you optimize your episodes for search, people can find your episodes weeks, months, or even years after you publish.
Should I Start a Podcast for My Business?
There are a few factors to consider when deciding whether to start a podcast for your business. First, you want to make sure that you have a validated offer, your messaging and positioning are currently working for you, and that you have validated offers. If you aren’t currently getting leads and signing clients through other marketing channels, then starting a podcast for your business isn’t a good idea. A podcast amplifies what’s currently working, so if what you’re doing isn’t working, a podcast won’t fix it. Another factor to consider is your current capacity. Do you realistically have the time, energy, and resources to dedicate to a podcast? If the answer is no, then it’s better to wait to start when it truly makes sense for you.
What Makes a Successful Business Podcast?
What makes a successful business podcast is clearly communicating your messaging through your podcast content, positioning your offers (both free and paid) as the best solution, and attracting new listeners who want and need your expertise. All of this is part of creating an effective podcast strategy. Part of that strategy is knowing when and how to sell in your content, creating content for each stage of the customer journey, and optimizing your podcast and episodes for search. If you want a successful business podcast, treat it as part of your marketing and sales strategy, just as you do your content for other marketing channels.
Do I Need Video to Start a Podcast for My Business?
You don’t need to add video to start a successful podcast for your business. Often, business owners delay starting a podcast because they believe they need video, and it’s a major learning curve. There are plenty of successful audio-only podcasts, and having video is not a requirement, regardless of who your target audience is. What matters more than whether or not you have video is creating a podcast strategy that brings in new leads, nurtures them, and converts them into your offers. If you want to learn more about the stats on video podcasts compared to audio-only podcasts, check out this blog post on which is better for business growth and this podcast episode on whether or not you need video to have a successful podcast.
Who Should Not Start a Podcast for Their Business?
If you are a new or beginner business owner who hasn’t worked with clients, you should not start a podcast. As mentioned above, a podcast can only amplify what’s working. If your messaging and positioning aren’t bringing you leads and clients on the platforms you’re currently showing up on, a podcast isn’t the answer to that problem. A podcast may also not be for you if you have tried podcast guesting or have created content in this format and didn’t enjoy it. I’m a firm believer in showing up on the platforms that light you up, and if a podcast isn’t that, that’s okay!
