do I need social media for my business

On average, small business owners spend 6-10 hours per week running their social media accounts. With business owners spending anywhere from 24 – 40 hours a month just on social media marketing, it’s no wonder so many are experiencing social media burnout. Add in being a mom running a business and the many hats you wear both in your business and in your home, it’s no surprise you are asking yourself, “Do I need social media for my business?” The reality is that you don’t need social media to grow your business. You have options for how you increase your visibility and market your business. In this blog, I will be sharing eight easy ways you can get started with growing your business without relying on social media.

do I need social media for my business

1. Email Marketing

Email marketing is such a powerful tool for business owners. Unlike social media, email marketing guarantees that your content is getting in front of your audience. Compared to social media marketing, email marketing has a higher return on investment (ROI). For every $1 you spend on your email marketing, on average, you earn $44.25, which is a 4400% ROI, while the ROI for social media is 28%. These numbers alone make email marketing a more viable option compared to social media. As a busy mama running a business, your time and capacity are limited, so realistically, you may not be able to commit to showing up on social media daily to grow your business. Sending out a weekly email is much more doable and yields a higher return.

2. Start a Podcast/YouTube Channel

Launching a podcast and/or YouTube channel for your business is a powerful way to increase your visibility, attract your dream clients, and sell your offers. With both podcasts and YouTube being evergreen content that continues to work for you even after you’ve hit publish, you don’t have to churn out new content daily. You’re also able to leverage SEO to attract the right listeners. Creating content in this format is also an effective way to build a deeper connection with your audience.

3. Blogging

Blogging is the best way to drive organic traffic to your website. Combined with SEO, your blog can be a powerful tool for increasing your visibility and attracting your best fit clients without you having to post online daily. Just like podcasts and YouTube, blogs are evergreen content, which gives you the freedom to create less content without stopping or slowing your lead generation.

4. Speaking Engagements

Speaking engagements are a great way to increase your visibility and grow your audience with your dream clients. The beauty of being an online business owner is that you have options for both in person and virtual speaking opportunities. Speaking engagement opportunities include:

  • Virtual summits
  • In person conferences
  • In person and virtual networking events
  • Speaking to private communities (i.e., Facebook groups, memberships, masterminds)
  • Audio summits

Speaking engagements give you more flexibility as a mom entrepreneur since you can schedule when you speak or have the option of pre-recording your talk.

5. Bundles

Bundle collaborations are a great way to grow your email list because you are getting in front of multiple people’s audiences at once. When done strategically, you can attract your dream clients and nurture and convert them through your email content. The key is to participate in bundles that will attract your target audience and contribute a resource that easily funnels into one of your paid offers. You also want to make sure that your messaging speaks directly to your ideal clients.

6. Podcast Guesting

Similar to other types of collaborations, podcast guesting is a low effort way to get in front of more of your ideal clients. You’re essentially borrowing someone else’s audience. Since podcast content is evergreen, your podcast interviews will continue to generate leads for you after the episode goes live. If you want to actually generate leads from guesting on podcasts, you need to speak on topics that resonate with your ideal client and connect to your signature offer. You also want to make sure that you give listeners a way to continue the conversation with you (aka, have a clear call to action that gets them into your world).

7. Guest Blogging

If you don’t have the capacity to start and manage your own blog, you can still leverage SEO through guest blogging. Many business owners seek out guest bloggers to add more value to their audience. As a guest blogger, you will be able to link back to your website and other key pieces of content. This will allow you to drive traffic to your content and attract your dream clients. Since blogging is evergreen content, you will continue to generate leads from your guest blogs weeks, months, and years after it is published.

8. Pinterest

Pinterest is often ignored or forgotten even though it’s an effective platform for driving more traffic to your website and long-form content.  Unlike social media, Pinterest relies heavily on SEO to drive results. Whether you have a blog, podcast, or YouTube channel for your business, Pinterest can help get even more eyes on your long-form content and drive more traffic to your website.

Do I Need Social Media for My Business? Conclusion

Despite what the experts and gurus say about needing a social media presence to be seen as a legitimate business, you do not need social media for your business. There are so many options for lead generation, marketing, and selling your offers. As a mom in business, you get to decide how you grow your business. You get to build your business in a way that makes sense for your current capacity. So, whether you want to borrow someone else’s audience through collaborations or grow your own audience through long-form content, you get to decide how your business is built. Stepping away from social media may feel scary, but as long as you find other ways to get visible and market your business, it doesn’t have to be stressful or overwhelming to step away from social media in your business.
